Description Michael count of Herberstein was a member of a grand Styrian noble family. He was the fourth son of Sigismung Friedrich von Herberstein (1549-1621), a governor of Styria from 1597, and Maria Magdalene von Welz (1554 – 1642), who immigrated to Nuremberg in 1629, after the expulsion of the Protestants from Styria. Michael von Herberstein died very young, in 1605, fighting against the Ottomans. This coat of arms was made in Tübingen for an Album Amicorum of an unnamed owner, probably when Michael von Herberstein was visiting the city, as the contemporary documents do not list him as as sudent of the Tübingen university.
